The publisher of Ovation International magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, the CEO of HITV,Mr. Toyin Subair, Top Nigerian Comedian,Tunde Adewale otherwise known as TEE A, joined other stakeholders on Wednesday 17 September 2008 to raise their voices against ‘Professional illiteracy’-a scourge that has eaten so deep into the Nigerian showbiz industry.
Leading the pack of expeditors at a one day showbiz seminar in Lagos on understanding showbiz in Nigeria.Momodu told lamented that most artistes don’t have professional structure that would make last. According to him, our so called celebrities of nowadays only want to do things that would make them known for sometime rather than making impacts that would last a life time. He cited the likes of King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and King Wasiu Ayinde as samples of artistes with dedicated vision not a one hit artiste who reign for 3 months and then fizzle out.
The publisher also emphasized on the need by celebrities to court the media because that is the way they can sustain the tempo. According to him, when some people become a celebrity that is when they stop picking calls or they change their numbers to prevent people from reaching them. He said the media have core value in the lives of showbiz personalities. He cited example of Sir Shina Peters. Today, most so called celebrities don't even establish good relationship about the media and when negative stories about them appear they will start screaming!Needless to say that most of them dont have a publicist, talkless of a manager or have someone in charge of their wardrobe.
According to him, Shina was a friend to the media; he knew their value, which was why whatever happens to him his regarded as a big deal.
On his part, top Lagos comedian,Mr. Tunde Adewale otherwise known as TEE A, lamented the fact that most entertainers did not find a need to attend such a important seminar that would help push their industry forward.Other speakers at the seminar included Mrs.Babi Subair, Toyin Subair and Tee Mac Itseli
At the resourceful event, gistmaster sighted the likes of Bayo Odusami, Kingsley James of DIGIPRINTS, Efe Omoregbe, Biodun Kupoluyi, KC Presh, Kenny Ogungbe, Yinka Oyedeji, Ayeni Adekunle, Elkanah Mowarin and others.
wow. to think that the current celebrities as in entertainers, singers, producers, directors did not attend the event judging from the picturess taken. It could be seen that, it is the older hands that attended and a few of the young ones. well, such events in my opinion, could and should be attended more by the current wave makers or better still they could send either their hangers on, personal assistants, secretaries or anyone tht is not involved in one video shoot, commercials, club hangouts and so many things tht they seem to be involved in these days (no sarcasms, no fun intended) just plain truth. as no knowledge is wasted as long as it is put into practice. God will help us....
