Remmy Diagbare, the editor of Allure, the weekly style magazine published in Vanguard Newspapers disclosed reasons her company organized the annual Women on Wellness Expose Seminar.
In her statement at the ceremony, Diagbare said
"It is an incontrovertible fact that women have been least favoured in terms of socio-economic and political advancement all over the world, while men seem to enjoy more access to means of aggrandizement as well as opportunities for self fulfilment.
However, today’s women are not sitting back in the dark corners of their rooms bemoaning their fate; rather, they are actively creating various platforms to register their relevance as well as empower themselves for greater contributions in the socio-politico-cum-economic systems of their environment and the world at large.
The Women on Wellness (WOW Expose is one the concerns that are dedicated to enhancing the profile of women in the corporate world).
The WOW Expose, which is an initiative of Allure, exclusively Vanguard, is instituted to create a platform to engage women and provide relevant information with a view of bridging the gap between women and wellness by engendering total development of women through public enlightenment programmes and public discourse of salient issues that affect women.
The first in the series of WOW seminars was held from June 20 to 21, 2008 in Lagos with the theme, “Revitalising Today’s Woman: Spirit, Soul, Body”, while the theme for the 2009 edition was “The Balancing Act: Work, Life Balance”. It focused strategies women could adopt in the face of new and increasing challenges.
WOW 2011
This year presents us yet another opportunity to reach out to women (and men) on practical tips towards aging gracefully. The theme this time is “Ace to Wellness.” Be Healthy, Wealthy, Be Wise.
Today, Professor Oladapo Ashiru has chosen to address, in detail the various processes and transformations that occur in the body, with emphasis on how one can enhance one’s state of health as one grows older. As part of our financial well being package, First Bank and MTN will open our eyes to some of their money saving products.
Our prayer is that, while you enjoy the fashion show and music, you will go away having gained something from the erudite professor, which will help in the inevitable stages of aging.
I will like to use this opportunity to thank all our sponsors: Da Viva, Unilever, MTN, First Bank and Chevron"
