LATEST NEWS:MODELS PROTEST 100 POUNDS PER DAY PAY AT ARISE AFRICA FASHION WEEK 2012

 Some Nigerian models who felt that they were being paid 'peanuts' compared to what other models coming from outside would be earning at Arise Africa Fashion Week decided to stage a walk out on Wednesday 7 March 2012. As at the time of going to press, the issue was yet to be resolved.Sources told gistmaster.com that the Nigerian models would earn twenty five thousand Naira per day (100 Pounds Sterling).Some of the models were called in for talks. The event, which was billed to have started on Tuesday 6 March have now been defered for two days now, with insiders blaming logistic problems. Due to the phenomenal response to participate in the much anticipated, ARISE Magazine Fashion Week, which last year hosted 5,000 guests, 51 designers, 81 models, 5 musical acts over three days – ARISE organisers have announced that it will return to Lagos in March 2012, only this time it will feature 77 participants from 6 continents – including designers as far away as India, the Caribbean, USA, Europe and Africa. The event, which is being together by African Fashion International is in collaboration with ARISE, a top magazine produced by Leaders and Company, the publishers of THIS DAY Newspapers in Nigeria.The event is scheduled to hold between 12-19 June 2009. Top designers from all over Africa such as Egypt, Kenya, Ghana Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda and Mozambique are expected to be part of the event.
