Ascon Oil Company Limited, a niche and efficient service provider in the downstream sector of the Nigeria Oil and Gas sector is happy to roll out the drums in celebration of their Twenty five (25) years of existence in the Nigeria business environment.
The Group Managing Director, Ascon Oil Company Limited Mrs Grace Enenmoh in her address at the media parley said that her husband Engr. George Enenmoh of blessed memory founded the company in Kano State then as a Consulting Petroleum marketing Company to an independent Oil marketer in Nigeria with the vision of becoming a leading Oil and Gas marketing company in the Nation that markets petroleum product and refining of crude oil.
Looking at the company history, Ascon Oil has grown in leaps and bounds. The Company was incorporated in 1984 and commenced business as an independent marketer of petroleum products in February 1985. In May 1988, we obtained an Oil Marketers license and signed a bulk purchase agreement as a petroleum products marketer with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its sister company, Pipelines Products Marketing Company (PPMC) later in the same year.
In sharing Ascon Oil milestones with the media present, Mrs. Enenmoh stated that “in 1991, we moved our Headquarter to Lagos from Kano which now serves as a regional office for northern branches while we also maintain offices in Port Harcourt, Warri and Abuja. Our phenomenal growth history continued in April 1999 when we commenced construction of our bulk storage terminal at Ibru Port Complex. The entire construction including design which was undertaken by Nigeria Engineers and the Phase 1 of that Depot Project was completed in the first quarter of 2000. Actual operations commenced there in July, 2000. This Bulk storage terminal has a capacity of 35,000MT and equipped with state of the art equipment capable of dispensing 13 million litres per day of White Products”.
In Ascon Oil’s bid to bring efficient services closer to their retail customers, they have expanded their network from 11 filling stations in 2005 to 28 outlets. In addition, the company has maintained the drive to acquire and presently own strategic land banks in some regions of Nigeria designed for the development of filling stations and storage facilities.
The Group Managing Director continues with her address to their Industrial and bulk customers, “we have continued to provide top quality products delivered efficiently with unequalled customer-related services that has been acclaimed by all in the industry. In year 2005 we added another laurel to our achievements by purchasing and taking delivery in Turkey of the twin 7000 MT capacity sea-going vessels namely MT CALIP SETER, which we named MT AGBOIYI and now presently called MT LOVELY GEORGE, the other half of the twin vessel is the MT AHMED KARAOSMAN which is also presently known as MT GRACIOUS. One of our subsidiaries, GIKEN OCEAN TANKERS, which we earlier on incorporated in 2003 now owns and runs these vessels”.
In the area of corporate social responsibility, the company secretary Barrister Ikem Ohia says “Ascon Oil as a responsible corporate citizen with the aim of giving back to the society, have in the past provided logistics support to the NNPC/PPMC Mosimi depot and also on several occasions offered safety and fire fighting facilities to companies located within our operating environment. The Lagos State Government also enjoyed our partnership in its flood control initiative in some parts of Lagos State amongst others” while Mr. Ike Enenmoh the Executive Director operations also added that Ascon Oil is also nurturing some youth footballers in Asaba Delta state with aim of starting a football academy in the nearest future.
In all Ascon Oil has been embarking on an aggressive and purposeful expansion drive which will in no doubt enable them become a preferred player in the downstream sector, a vision envisaged by the founder late Engr. George Enenmoh at conception. This same drive has afforded Ascon Oil the opportunity to win both local and foreign awards in the oil and gas sector in the last 25 years.
As a company that delights in its people, the continuous annual awards to long serving members who have played active roles in Ascon Oil success story will also be a part of the celebration.
To maintain their significant position in distribution, transportation and marketing of petroleum products in Nigeria, Ascon Oil will increasing bulk storage and sales facility in Port Harcourt, Warri, Kano and Lagos.
