Koko Concert set to rock Lagos December 27
D'BANJ and the entire Mo'Hits Crew will set Lagos on fire, literally, on Tuesday, December 27 as the Lagos edition of this year Koko Concert series holds.
Billed to hold at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island from 7pm, the show will feature D'banj, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, D' Prince, Wande Coal and K Switch.
The Lagos show is coming after a successful London held at the Hammersith Apollo edition which featured members of Mo' H crew such as Dr Sid, D' Prince, Wande Coal and K Switch and Kanye West's surprise performance. The American superstar who recently signed D'banj and Don Jazzy to his G.O.O.D Music label flew into London unannounced and stormed the stage to the surprise of everyone. It's is not clear whether West will be able to make another surprise appearance this time around, but a statement by Mo' Hits media Company, Media Image Managers stated that there is sure a "major surprise package" waiting for D'banj's fans on that evening.
Singing bird, Ibiso drops Still Here
MANY thought they won't hear again from Ibiso, the singer who shook the country in 2008 from the bowels of the Niger Delta region with her hit debut album entitled No Cry. But they were dead wrong. Ibiso Edwards, popularly called the 'Singing Bird', is on the verge of holding the country in a musical grip with her latest offering.
Entitled Still Here, the 12-song album is enjoying rave reviews in the nation's airwaves at the moment and the artiste is currently on tour her Niger Delta region with the new work with plans on ground to tour some African countries and Europe in January. "This (Still Here) is my Yuletide gift to all lovers of good, soul inspiring gospel music. This new work is fresh and hot from the throne room, an expression of thanks, the revelation of God's word and celebration of our culture," the singer said in an interview.
The multiple award winning Ibiso, is a Nigerian flavoured gospel singer with talents that promote the culture and beauty of Christianity through the rhythm of her soul songs. She is multi talented; a fine artist, poet, fashion designer and writer with a call to the music ministry.
Her debut album No Cry with the hit song entitled Anipakabara in 2008 sold over a million copies. The winner, Best Artiste of the Year, NDAA ( Niger Delta Advancement Awards), GOFA, CMA AWARDS and among several others revealed that two videos have been shot from the latest album. "Yes, I have shot two videos, they will soon hit the airwaves. Ombo Ibifaa directed the video. For the audio production, I worked with three producers, King Buskie, Princevibes and Akeem da Beat. I must say that these three guys did a whole lot to change the flavour of Still Here. The end result is, the listener will enjoy the taste of it from different sides."
Why did it take Ibiso this long to do a follow up to her debut since 2008. "Music is a complicated art, you don't just wake up and run into the studio, if you do, what you will get out will be for your listening pleasure only. The singer must be inspired to write the lyrics of the songs and she must also be in the right frame of mind to perform them on record. All these I just stated, if followed diligently will ultimately lead to one producing a good record. Most times, artistes are pressured into doing music because of some reasons but Ibiso does not belong to that category. I do music when the inspiration comes and so far, it has worked well for me because aside the feedback from my fans, I also enjoy listening to my own music. In fact, I never get tired of it because it inspires me to do more."
The native of Fouchee town, Rivers State and graduate of Linguistics and Communications, University of Port Harcourt, with proficiency certificate in Basic Broadcast Presentation at the Alpha Institute of Broadcasting and Communications laid out her plans for the new work. "My management company has lined up a lot of activities for this Yuletide season through Easter period next year. We are currently on tour with Still Here, it's been quite a busy period for me. Next year will be busier because we have concluded plans to take Still Here across Africa and Europe. My people are currently working on that at the moment."
