'Now, lets see which of us is the biggest' seem to be the slogan between the organizers of the Arise Africa Fashion week and Joborg Fashion week.
Two of the top fashion weeks in Africa has been slated for the same period. While the Joburg Fashion Week is slated to hold between 7 and 10 March 2012, Arise would start one 6 March and ends on 11 March 2012 in Nigeria.
A source who spoke with gistmaster.com last weekend said "This could just be another way that African Fashion International and Arise wants to lock up their battle of supremacy. You know they had a major disagreement durning the first Arise Africa Fashion Week in 2009. That is why they have not been able to collaborate on it again. Instead Nduka decided to organise subsequent ones in Nigeria and invited some South African designers and directors for the second one"
Another person who spoke to gistmaster under the condition of anonymity however saw things differently. She said, it does not matter. The two Fashion Weeks are prestigious and those who can't make it to one will go for the other.People should stop spreading false information and creating enemity.
"It is true that Nduka Obaigbena and his people in Arise magazine had issues with the people in Africa Fashion International organizers of Jobourg Fashion week had issues durning the Arise Africa Fashion Week in 2009 but that is not to say they are now using the same calendar to get back to one another. Arise took place this same time last year, so whats the big deal" she asked rhetorically.
