I have tried to find a good answer to this question several times but the more i tried, the more difficult it becomes to find an answer.Does Nollywood exist? You can trace Hollywood to a geographical location in America. Everyone would point to California, the city of world's biggest actors, producers and singers.
Where is our own Nollywood? Is it in Surulere where most artistes got their first movie roles or Ojez the bar and restaurant inside National Stadium where actors meet and jollificate? Okay, did i hear you say Lekki/Ajah axis because Genevieve Nnaji,Monalisa Chinda, Uche Jombo,Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo and others stay there?
As i waited patiently for the newspaper vendor to give me my change, i smiled because one of the captions read "Gollywood actress..blah blah..."- Ghanaian actors are now known by the funny name Gollywood! Where is all
these wood, wood coming from?lol...So Liberia film industry is Lollywood (lollypop if you like), South Africa is Sollywood,Uganda will be Ugawood...
We Africans should wake up to reality, the reality of originality! Let us also hope that soon the government of Nigeria will help the film makers get a place that would fit the proper defination of a film village, then whatever name they call it will stand.
Just my opinion *not by force.
